Best Secret Place

Every night, characters wake up in a secret place, unsure of where they are or how they got there. They search for clues in the graffiti on the walls and floor. They inhabit this space with their fears, desires, and dreams, and their melancholy gradually moves towards the light. Blending the cold aesthetics of video games with human warmth, Best Secret Place, a tribute to the hidden zones in such games, compares the existential angst of its protagonists to the fates of dead avatars. For Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel, victory seems meaningless—personal fulfillment lies elsewhere. Following Eat the Night, the duo continue their exploration of digital detours in this mysterious, dreamlike short film produced by the Cartier Foundation featuring Vimala Pons, Idir Azougli and Vincent Macaigne.
